Method and assumptions

Video frames are decoded via Mediabunny and WebCodecs, cropped to the specified even-numbered [left, top, width, height] rectangle, scaled to the target output dimensions, and re-encoded using your browser's supported hardware video encoder (H.264/AVC, VP9, AV1, or HEVC) while copying or transcoding the primary audio track.

Common mistakes and edge cases

Hardware WebCodecs encoders require even pixel widths and heights (multiples of 2); odd dimensions are automatically rounded to the nearest even pixel.

How to use

  1. Drop an MP4, MOV, or WebM video into the workspace (or load the 3-second sample clip).
  2. Select a social aspect-ratio preset (9:16, 1:1, 16:9, or 4:5) or enter custom X, Y, Width, and Height pixel values.
  3. Select an export quality preset and click Apply crop & export.
  4. Preview the cropped video and click Download.

Example

Load a 640×360 widescreen clip and select the 1:1 Square preset: the tool computes a centered 360×360 crop box and exports a playable 360×360 video with audio intact.

Frequently asked questions

Why are odd crop dimensions rounded by 1 pixel?
Hardware H.264 and VP9 video encoders require even pixel widths and heights (multiples of 2) for chroma subsampling.
Is the audio track preserved when cropping?
Yes. The primary audio track is preserved and synchronized with the cropped video stream.
