Method and assumptions

Existing PDF pages are modified directly in vector space using pdf-lib without rasterizing page content. Text watermarks and header/footer/page-number strings are drawn using embedded standard Helvetica fonts with configurable opacity, rotation angle, and RGB color. Image watermarks embed PNG or JPEG assets directly into the target page dictionaries.

Common mistakes and edge cases

Watermarks and page numbers are added as vector drawing operations in the page content stream; they remain selectable text/vector objects rather than destructive pixel burns.

How to use

  1. Drop a PDF file into the workspace (or load the 3-page sample PDF).
  2. Configure a vector Text watermark, upload a PNG/JPG logo watermark, or select No watermark.
  3. Toggle Add page numbers, choose a numbering format and position, and optionally enter header/footer text or a page range.
  4. Click Apply watermark & numbering and download the stamped PDF.

Example

Load a 3-page specification PDF, set Watermark text to CONFIDENTIAL at 25% opacity and 45° rotation, enable 'Page 1 of N' bottom-right numbering, and download the stamped vector PDF.

Frequently asked questions

Does watermarking rasterize my PDF pages?
No. Watermarks, headers, footers, and page numbers are drawn directly onto the existing vector PDF pages, preserving all original selectable text and sharp vector graphics.
Can I watermark only specific pages?
Yes. Enter a page range such as 1-2, 4 in the Page range field instead of 'all'.
