Image Metadata Viewer & Privacy Cleaner

Inspect hidden EXIF, GPS location coordinates, camera serial numbers, capture timestamps, and Adobe XMP segments inside your images—and strip them losslessly without re-encoding pixels.

METADATA INSPECTOR

Select an image or load the geotagged sample photo above to inspect embedded EXIF, GPS, and XMP fields.

LOSSLESS PRIVACY CLEANER

Cleaned files are generated automatically using lossless binary segment removal.

Method and assumptions

The inspector parses binary file headers directly in a Uint8Array without uploading or re-encoding the image. For JPEG files, it scans APP1 (EXIF TIFF IFD0, ExifIFD, GPSIFD, and Adobe XMP), APP2 (ICC profile), APP13 (IPTC/Photoshop), and COM segments. For PNG and WebP files, it parses eXIf, tEXt, iTXt, zTXt, tIME, EXIF, and XMP chunks. The lossless privacy cleaner excises metadata segments directly from the binary container while copying the compressed image bitstream verbatim—preventing any generation loss.

Common mistakes and edge cases

Lossless binary stripping is supported for JPEG, PNG, and WebP containers. If an image relies on a non-standard EXIF Orientation tag (2–8) rather than rotated pixels, stripping the EXIF segment also removes the orientation tag; use the Image Format Converter or Resizer if you want the pixels physically rotated first.

How to use

  1. Drop a JPEG, PNG, or WebP photo into the inspector (or click 'Load sample photo with EXIF & GPS').
  2. Review the detected Camera, Capture, GPS, Author, and Document metadata tags.
  3. Download the privacy-cleaned image (or batch ZIP) with EXIF, GPS, XMP, and IPTC segments removed losslessly.

Example

Load the sample geotagged photo: the inspector reveals Sony ILCE-7RM5 camera model, capture timestamp, and GPS coordinates (37.775°, -122.4194°). Clicking Save Clean downloads a byte-stripped JPEG with zero EXIF or GPS segments and untouched image pixels.

Frequently asked questions

Does cleaning metadata reduce image quality?
No. For JPEG, PNG, and WebP files, our cleaner removes the binary metadata segments directly from the container without decoding or re-compressing the image pixels.
Should I keep the ICC color profile?
Yes, keeping the ICC profile preserves accurate color rendering on wide-gamut displays while still removing all GPS, camera, and timestamp tags.
