Method and assumptions

Each input file is decoded in browser memory honoring embedded EXIF orientation flags and drawn onto an HTML5 canvas before encoding to the selected target MIME type (image/webp, image/png, image/jpeg, or image/avif). When converting formats with alpha transparency (PNG, WebP, SVG) to opaque JPEG, the canvas is pre-filled with the selected matte color so transparent regions do not turn black.

Common mistakes and edge cases

HEIC/HEIF decoding relies on native OS/browser support (available in Safari on macOS and iOS; desktop Chromium/Firefox browsers without native HEIC decoders will display an explicit format notice). Converting a multi-frame GIF or animated WebP exports the first static frame.

How to use

  1. Drop your source images (JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, SVG, GIF, BMP, or HEIC where supported by your browser).
  2. Select the target output format (WebP, PNG, JPEG, or AVIF) and encoder quality.
  3. If converting transparent PNG/WebP/SVG files to JPEG, pick your preferred background matte color.
  4. Download converted files individually or as a single batch ZIP.

Example

Drop five transparent PNG product graphics, select WebP at 90% quality, and click Convert batch to produce lightweight transparent .webp files ready for web deployment in a single ZIP download.

Frequently asked questions

What happens to transparent areas when converting PNG to JPG?
JPEG does not support alpha transparency. Instead of turning transparent pixels black, this converter fills the background with your chosen matte color (white #ffffff by default).
Does this support HEIC and AVIF?
AVIF encoding is automatically enabled when your browser's canvas encoder supports image/avif. HEIC/HEIF inputs decode natively on Safari (macOS and iOS).
